Design, Operation & Maintenance

Client: City of Gillette, Wyoming

The City of Gillette retained TZA to design a replacement water supply well for an existing City well. The old well had been drilled with direct mud rotary techniques and consisted of telescoping casing with a 10-inch pump chamber and 7-inch screened interval. TZA prepared bid documents for construction and equipping of the replacement well utilizing reverse circulation methods and 12-inch casing and screen. The new well is capable of instantaneous production rates that are more than double the capacity of the old well. The existing well was converted into a monitoring well so that the City can use it in their maintenance plan to monitor the well efficiency of the new well. Once testing of the new well was complete TZA designed and supervised construction of a second replacement well for the City. TZA has also developed and managed maintenance plans for the Madison and Fort Union well fields that provide much of Gillette’s potable water supply.

Client: CH2M Hill, Jerusalem, Israel

After several premature pumping equipment failures, TZA was retained by CH2M Hill to perform specialized testing of the equipment for USAID. Detailed online testing was performed on high voltage pumping equipment. The online testing data, along with results of aquifer tests, were evaluated to identify problems causing the premature motor and pump failures. Results and recommendations were provided in a detailed report and corrective actions have been implemented.

Client: Rocky Mountain Energy Center, Keenesburg, Colorado

TZA provided engineering services for the development of an alluvial well field along the South Platte River near Fort Lupton, Colorado. The well field was designed to provide over 3,000 acre-feet per year of process water to the Rocky Mountain Energy Center, a 600-megawatt natural gas fired power plant located near Keenesburg, Colorado. TZA prepared bid specifications, recommended award of a contract, and provided construction oversight during all phases of construction. Monitoring wells were initially constructed and tested at several locations to identify the best location for construction of a high capacity wells while minimizing the footprint of the well field. The sustainable yield of the well field was evaluated, and technical assistance was provided for permitting the wells. TZA provides ongoing engineering services related to maintenance of the well field.

Client: Colorado Real Estate and Investment Company, Aurora, Colorado

TZA performed a study to evaluate alternative methods for treating groundwater high in fluoride and total dissolved solids for a public water supply system. Treatment with reverse osmosis was chosen as the preferred alternative, and technical specifications for construction of treatment facilities were prepared. TZA performed construction management during all phases of the project. TZA staff members are the licensed operators for the community public water supply system. TZA continues to work with Colorado Real Estate and Investment Company as a consultant for water and wastewater issues on their properties that are located throughout the United States.
